Acoustics: Marine mammal communications tell us a lot about their habits
Acoustics is a non-invasive way to collect an enormous wealth of data on marine mammals, thanks to them being very noisy! Acoustics studies by TriOceans members in the Bay of Islands have so far allowed to create the first local whistle repertoire for our 2 bottlensoe dolphin ecotypes, as well as demonstrate a lack of “language” similiarity between them. Results have also brought insight into vessel effects and inter-species associations, with more to come soon!
